Well, as many of you know, I began querying Little Owl in earnest about two weeks ago. And let me tell you, it’s hell. Querying a novel is literally setting yourself up for daily rejection, but it’s the only way to get into traditional publishing. So I have to just do my best to stay positive and keep moving forward.
As of right now, I have sent out 23 queries and have received 10 form rejections (meaning it’s a copy and paste of “I’m going to pass, but keep trying!” Agents get so many queries, I completely understand why this is the norm. But man it can wear a gal down.
In my best efforts to stay positive, every time I receive a rejection I send out two more queries. Last night I sent six to replace the three rejections I’d received since Monday. It’s amazing how quickly this little practice can turn, “Well… shit.” into “Okay, six more lines in the water! Here’s hoping. *fingers crossed.”
So I’ll keep on trucking, and hopefully next month I’ll have a more positive update. Hopefully at least a request for a partial or full manuscript. Heck, I’d even take a personalized rejection at this point and call it a win!
So wish me luck. And anyone reading this, do me a favor. Next time you love a book, let the author know. Post on their social media, shoot them an email, or comment on their website. Something. Anything to spread a little love in the writer-sphere. 馃槈
Happy reading!
